Marcos Torregrosa, a Cassio Werneck black belt since January 2007, built his game around a relentless triangle choke that earned him six of seven wins by submission at the 2004 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. Starting his BJJ journey in California under Raven Seyman, he trained directly under Werneck in Brazil before taking over his original gym and later opening his own academy in south Sacramento in 2011. A brief but notable affiliation with Team Lloyd Irvin began in 2011 and ended in 2013 when Torregrosa left in the wake of the TLI scandal, a move that prompted several others to follow.
