## Bio

A twin sister of Ashlee Funegra, Mia Funegra emerged from the Art of Jiu-Jitsu (AOJ) Kids Program as part of the gym’s second generation of homegrown champions under Guilherme Mendes. She and Ashlee started jiu-jitsu in 2014 after an early stint in Krav Maga, and Mia quickly became a standout on the international competitive circuit. Promoted to black belt on May 29, 2025, at age 18, she used the same IBJJF exemption granted to Cassia Moura—citing her December 2024 No-Gi World Championship win at brown belt—to bypass the minimum time-in-rank rule and compete at the professional level at the 2025 IBJJF World Championships that same week.
