## Overview

**Name:** Milton Regis

**Date of Birth:** February 07, 1964 (age 62)

## Bio

A foundational figure in New York’s competition scene, Milton Regis began his jiu-jitsu at age nine under Marcelo Matsunaga at Kioto in Rio, earning all his belts under Master Mansor. A purple belt when he entered the army, his nine-year lieutenant stint stalled his competitive rise—purple was the only belt at which he never medaled—though he trained judo and kept rolling during postings across Brazil. After moving to the U.S. in 2001 and teaching in Massachusetts, he relocated to Long Island and, with childhood friend Eloy Santos, co-founded the PRIDE NY tournament in 2007, which grew from under 100 entrants into a regional staple drawing world champions.
