**Name:** Muzio de Angelis


## Bio

A second-generation Gracie Jiu-Jitsu product, Muzio de Angelis learned the art from age five under his father, Pierino de Angelis, a black belt under Joao Alvaro Barreto. After receiving his purple belt from Sylvio Behring, he joined Alliance and the famed Academia Strike under Roberto Traven, who awarded him his black belt in 1994. When Strike closed in 1997, he and Traven opened Academia Traven & Muzio; Traven’s eventual move to the United States left Muzio running the school alone. Following Alliance’s fragmentation in the early 2000s, he helped co-found the Brasa team alongside Castello Branco, Felipe Costa, and Octavio Couto.
