## Bio

Born in the Cantagalo favela in 1995, Natan Chueng credits a childhood of surfing, futsal, and circus acrobatics for his movement-based grappling style. Signed to Strauch Academy at age six to steer him away from trouble, he was forced to quit training as a teen due to poverty before returning at sixteen through the Cantagalo BJJ project under Douglas Rufino, then linked to Checkmat and later the Caio Terra Association. Rufino promoted Chueng to brown belt, but he moved to São Paulo to join Cícero Costha’s team, receiving his black belt from Costha in June 2019.
