## Overview

**Name:** Roberto Godoi

**Belt Rank:** Black Belt

## Bio

A foundational figure in São Paulo’s BJJ scene, Roberto Godoi began training in 1988 under Marcelo Behring before linking with Valdomiro Perez at Cia Paulista. By 1994 he had opened an affiliate with Perez and childhood friend Jorge “Macaco” Patino, but the trio split within a year. Godoi and Patino then formed the dominant Academia Macaco/Godoi, winning four straight Paulista state titles against powerhouse teams like Ryan Gracie Academy and Alliance. The partnership dissolved bitterly in 2001 over money, leading Godoi to found Godoi Jiu Jitsu, taking Marco Barbosa, Bruno Frazatto, and Roberto Tozi with him. He and Patino fought twice in jiu-jitsu—each winning once—and once in MMA, where Macaco TKO’d him in 2006.
