## Overview

**Name:** Shane Rice

## Bio

Shane Rice’s path to jiu-jitsu began in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where years of boxing gave way to a six-month grappling stint before a Rickson Gracie seminar in Toronto permanently redirected his career. He committed himself to Rickson as his master, making the costly back-and-forth between Canada and Los Angeles until he finally settled in LA, where he became an instructor at Rickson’s academy alongside Henry Aikens and Kron Gracie. Rice received his black belt from Rickson Gracie in November 2006. His competitive grappling résumé includes a 2010 World Pro Cup Trials match against Rubens Charles, and he also crossed over into mixed martial arts, facing Canadian standouts such as Mark Hominick and Ivan Menjivar.
