Thomas Lisboa came up through the Alliance Taubaté affiliate under Alex Monsalve and Daniel “Cabelo” Nogueira, making the weekly trek to São Paulo as a blue belt to train at Fábio Gurgel’s HQ alongside world champions. His competitive trajectory hit a clear upward turn after Bruno Malfacine invited him to Orlando in 2011, and Gurgel promoted him to black belt on December 15, 2012. Gurgel then sent him to Marcelo Garcia’s New York academy for six months before he returned to coach at Alliance headquarters alongside Michael Langhi. A 2015 IBJJF No-Gi World Champion title led to a coaching invitation in Vancouver.
