Founded and led by head instructor Andrew Adams Mac Donald, Arete BJJ has built a reputation for its relaxed and friendly atmosphere where both regular students and visiting practitioners feel welcome. The academy focuses on technical BJJ instruction with emphasis on positional drilling and technique chains. Classes typically begin with standard warm-ups including running and shrimping, followed by positional drilling, detailed technique instruction, and conclude with "king of the hill" drilling focused on specific positions. Andrew is known for his attentive teaching style, providing personalized adjustments during technique drilling and maintaining strong awareness of student wellbeing and safety. Arete BJJ offers both gi and no-gi training programs, with instruction covering fundamental techniques through advanced concepts including spider guard fundamentals, submissions, sweeps, and back takes. The gym maintains a collaborative learning environment where students often arrive early to practice techniques before formal class begins. With multiple locations in Bangkok including the main Thonglor facility and a branch in Minburi, Arete BJJ serves the Bangkok BJJ community with accessible, high-quality Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction.
