10th Planet Darlington is based at Evolution Martial Arts Academy. We offer instruction in Kickboxing and 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu; from children’s classes to adults. Luke Randell is Head Instructor at Evolution Martial Arts Academy and has been teaching here full-time since 2004. Luke started his training in Shukokai Karate in 1997 (aged 14), and gained his Black Belt after 5 years of consistent and focused training. From here Luke started to cross train in lots of different styles, training for over 5 years in Muay Thai and Boxing, after which he found Kickboxing, which remains his core style today alongside 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu. In 2012 Luke received his 4th Dan in Combat Kickboxing, under World renowned Peter Consterdine of the British Combat Association.

Roger Gracie Academy Darlington opened its doors in March 2022, bringing world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction to the North East of England. Head Coach Jakub Niski has trained since 2015 at RGA HQ in London, learning directly under Roger Gracie and Mauricio Gomes. Jakub brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, having trained and competed at the highest level as a multiple IBJJF and UAEJJF medalist. Roger Gracie is widely regarded as one of the greatest jiu-jitsu competitors to have ever stepped on a mat. A 10-time Black Belt World Champion and multiple MMA champion, Roger is one of the most decorated fighters of the modern era and a member of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation Hall of Fame. As the son of Reila Gracie and Mauricio Gomes (who received his black belt from the legendary Rolls Gracie), and grandson of Carlos Gracie, Roger carries on the Gracie family legacy of excellence in martial arts. At RGA Darlington, the academy operates under the core values established by Roger and Mauricio: Discipline, Consistency, Accountability, Alignment, and Authenticity. The gym offers comprehensive programs in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (both Gi and No-Gi), Judo, and Wrestling for adults and children. One of Yorkshires oldest Martial Arts Centre’s it has recently undergone a huge refurbishment programme offering changing rooms, shower facilities and now two training floors with full central heating. For those parents wanting to watch our junior sessions there is ample viewing areas and also hot & cold drinks available. We also have a large seating area downstairs should you wish to grab a coffee and have a chat with the other parents or students.

Dark Path Grappling

Dark Path Grappling offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes in Godalming, Surrey, embracing the evolution of modern BJJ and submission grappling. Inspired by pioneers like the Gracies and innovators such as John Danaher, Craig Jones, Gordon Ryan, and Lachlan Giles, the gym stays ahead of the evolving grappling meta. Founded by Adam Ellis, a black belt (2nd degree) who began his BJJ journey in 2010 under Andy Roberts (a Roger Gracie black belt), Dark Path Grappling provides expert instruction for all skill levels. Adam earned his black belt in 2018 and has competed successfully at every belt level, achieving 4-time European medalist status at black belt and ranking 12th globally in the IBJJF 2023-2024 Gi season (Black Belt Super Heavy Master 2). He was also the highest-ranked adult black belt male in the UK Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation in 2019. Classes are structured to include dynamic drilling sessions, positional rolling, free sparring, movement drills, and mobility work, creating an environment focused on learning, improvement, and understanding the "why" behind techniques. The gym offers a beginner-friendly atmosphere where new students can learn at their own pace, with no experience required.
