DARUMA DOJO | TAKE THE BACK, FIND THE NECK | BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU | BAY AREA BJJ

Take the Back. Find the Neck.

One of the biggest mistakes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is focusing on the submission before earning the position.

In today's technique, Professor Alberto Juarez demonstrates how strong frames can help you survive heavy pressure, create space, reverse the position, and work your way to one of the most dominant positions in Jiu-Jitsu: the back.

From strong defensive frames to hip movement, lapel control, butterfly hooks, and a smooth back take, every step has a purpose.

Because in Jiu-Jitsu, the goal isn't to force the submission.

First, take the back. Then, find the neck.

Train with intention. Master the details. The results will follow.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
