FITNESS ROUTINE FOR BJJ? - ASK A BLACK BELT - DARUMA DOJO ft PROFESSOR ALBERTO - BJJ

From Daruma Dojo

There isn’t one perfect workout for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Running, swimming, cycling, hiking, surfing, lifting weights and other sports can all contribute to your development because they challenge your body in different ways while keeping you active outside of the academy.

The best supplemental training is something you enjoy enough to do consistently.

If you want conditioning that more closely reflects the physical demands of Jiu-Jitsu, Professor Alberto recommends incorporating sprints and high-intensity weight training. Both can help develop the ability to produce repeated bursts of effort while building the strength and conditioning needed for hard rounds.

But the bigger principle is simple.

Move your body. Build a healthy lifestyle. Find activities you enjoy and let them support the work you’re already doing on the mats.

Your Jiu-Jitsu training doesn’t have to be the only way you train.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
