How To Spar in Jiu Jitsu Without Gassing Out #jiujitsu #jiujitsutraining #friscotx

Why are you completely exhausted after just a few minutes of rolling in Jiu-Jitsu?

For many new BJJ students, it isn’t just conditioning. White belts often have fewer techniques and less-developed timing, so they compensate by using strength and trying to force the moves they know—even when those moves aren’t working.

Professor Matthew Jones explains that experienced grapplers learn to change “gears” during a round. You don’t need to redline for five straight minutes. Sometimes you conserve energy; other times you increase the intensity to pass a guard, finish a sweep, escape a choke, or get out of danger.

As your technique and timing improve, so does your ability to regulate your energy while sparring.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
