Part 7 - Every black belt was once a beginner.

Every experienced member had a first session.

And one of the biggest worries new people have is that they're going to hold everyone else back.

The truth?

It's usually the opposite.

Helping someone new learn a technique forces more experienced members to slow down, break things apart, and truly understand what they're doing. It's one of the best ways to improve your own skills.

You can drill with experienced training partners all day long, but helping someone take their first steps is something that simply can't be replicated.

In this clip, Gareth talks about why beginners aren't an inconvenience they're an essential part of what makes a great training environment.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
