Why Women Only Classes Matter

Why Women Only Classes Matter

From Gym 01 - Vitor Shaolin BJJ

Part 4 - Why do women's only classes matter?

It's a question that came up during our conversation with Sarah, and her answer was particularly interesting because it wasn't based on opinion alone.

As part of her own research, Sarah looked into the barriers that stop women from starting or sticking with exercise, and one theme kept appearing: confidence.

In this clip, she explains why women's-only classes can play such an important role in helping people take that first step, build confidence, and eventually realise that they belong in fitness spaces just as much as anyone else.

A thoughtful perspective from one of our long-standing members.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
