The near side roll escape from turtle position — video 5 in Section 5 (Turtle Position) of the BJJ Fundamentals Course at Nakama BJJ.
The near side roll is the counterpart to the far side roll. When your opponent is attacking from the near side or has specific grips, this roll lets you escape turtle and recover to a safer position. Having both rolls in your game makes your turtle defence much harder to beat.
In this video you'll learn:
- When to choose the near side roll vs. the far side roll
- Proper mechanics for the near side roll
- Recovering position after the escape
- Chaining turtle defences together
