Alex Sodré traded a childhood dream of professional football for jiu-jitsu at age 12 after stumbling upon Othon Servalho painting a gym in Manaus, a chance encounter that led to his first gi and years of coaching. Rising quickly through the local ranks as a blue belt, he left Amazonas to chase elite competition, landing at Rodrigo Feijão’s scholarship house in Maringá under Nova União’s banner. A bronze at the brown belt Brasileiro preceded an unexpected black belt promotion from Feijão in May 2018, just before his first IBJJF World Championship trip, cementing him as a feared light-featherweight from the jungle.
