Before her 20th birthday, Dominyka Obelenyte was already a black belt world champion, a trajectory that began when she won the adult blue belt lightweight world title at age 14 while competing through a dislocated rib. A Lithuanian-born product of the Gracie Humaitá affiliate system under Louis Vintaloro, she later followed JT Torres to TLI before settling at Marcelo Garcia’s academy, where she earned her brown belt at 17 and her black belt on January 15, 2015. In her first year at black belt, she secured double gold at the 20th World Jiu-Jitsu Championship. She later moved to Fábio Clemente’s gym in 2016 and also spearheaded a high-profile campaign pressuring the IBJJF to equalize prize money between men and women.
