## Overview

**Name:** Erin Herle

**Date of Birth:** August 31, 1989 (age 37)

## Bio

Erin Herle’s path to black belt cut through three major camps — Rômulo Barral’s Gracie Barra, Rubens Cobrinha’s Alliance in Los Angeles, and finally Marcelo Garcia’s Alliance NY — but her competitive peak came under Garcia, where she won the IBJJF World No-Gi and European Open titles as a brown belt. A late starter who joined her first gym at 20 after watching the 2008 Pan Ams, Herle spent her early years as the only woman on the mat, often rolling with much larger men. She is equally known for founding #SubmitTheStigma, a nonprofit addressing mental illness and suicide in the jiu-jitsu community, launched after her father’s death in 2015. She received her black belt from Cobrinha in November 2017.
