## Bio

Jake Mackenzie’s path from a Truro, Nova Scotia gym run by Chuck Sproule to the black belt podium runs through a relentless obsession with half guard. Starting at 14 on his father’s advice, he absorbed early instruction from Márcio Feitosa and later Márcio Canário before identifying half guard as his weakness. Instead of avoiding it, he spent four months in Brazil booking one-on-one sessions with specialists, turning that Achilles heel into his signature. A 2007 purple belt under Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu, he followed Cyborg to Florida and earned his black belt on June 12, 2010, later relocating to Brazil with GFT.
