## Overview

**Name:** Lucas Sachs

**Belt Rank:** Black Belt 4 Stripes

**Date of Birth:** April 19, 1981 (age 45)

## Bio

A former football prospect in Grêmio's youth system, Lucas Sachs traded the pitch for the mats at 14, first training under Walter Mattos and José Mario Sperry at Sul Jiu-Jitsu Academy before later absorbing influence from Fernando Paradeda. He earned his black belt in 2006 from that same trio. A silver medal at the 1998 IBJJF World Championships as a juvenile convinced him to abandon football entirely. His black belt peak included a run to the 2009 World Championship quarter-finals, where he lost to a debuting Bernardo Faria. Sachs later presided over the Federação Gaúcha de Jiu-Jitsu from 2013 to 2017, and relocated to Australia in 2018, eventually coaching at Robert Whittaker's academy through his connection to Alex Prates.
