## Bio

A late bloomer to competitive jiu-jitsu, Marcelo Gomide found his stride after a childhood in futsal and judo, then a teenage hiatus from the kimono. He returned to the mats at 18 through an interest in MMA, eventually committing fully at purple belt under Minas Gerais black belt Erik Wanderley at Gracie Barra Mangabeiras. Gomide also cross-trained with Gracie Barra Belo Horizonte under Claudio Caloquinha and Sergio Benini. Promoted to black belt in June 2019 by Wanderley, Gomide’s most notable competitive marker from that period is a match against Breno Novaes.
