**Name:** Otavio ‘Peixotinho’


## Bio

Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in Ipanema, Otavio ‘Peixotinho’ turned to Jiu-Jitsu at 14 after years of bullying and surfing, enrolling at the Gracie academy in Copacabana in December 1974 under Carlson Gracie. A relentless lightweight who cross-trained in wrestling and Judo, he became known for taking on much heavier opponents in the absolute division, most famously his 1981 Campeonato Carioca brown belt final against Mauricio Gomes, where the 72kg Peixotinho lost by a single advantage to the 93kg Gomes. His 1984 Copa do LINJI open weight match against Rickson Gracie, fought after already defeating Ze ‘Paraiba’ and Sylvio Behring in his weight class and Rillion Gracie in the absolute, cemented his reputation as a warrior. He later moved to Taubaté and opened his own academy with Carlson’s blessing.
