March 25, 2026

Stop getting choked and start escaping. In this video, New Wave Jiu-Jitsu standout Luke Griffith reveals his foolproof, step-by-step system for escaping the back in No-Gi BJJ.

We’ve all been there. A younger, faster grappler takes your back, locks in the hooks, and that feeling of claustrophobic panic sets in. You know the Rear Naked Choke is coming, and you feel completely powerless to stop it.

But what if you had a systematic, unbreakable defense?

Luke Griffith, one of John Danaher’s most dominant competitors, sits down with 5x World Champion Bernardo Faria to share the ultimate cure for back mount survival. This isn't just a list of random moves; it's a complete framework. You'll learn the exact hand-fighting "Shutdown Grips" that make you un-chokable, how to misalign your opponent's hips, and a mind-blowing "Foot Clamp" detail that even Bernardo admits he had never seen before!

If you want to stop feeling helpless from the back and learn how to dismantle your opponent's control safely and methodically, this video is exactly what you need.

What You'll Learn in This Video:

0:00 - Introduction: Why Luke Griffith's back escapes are world-class.

1:50 - The "Shutdown Grip": The #1 rule for surviving the Rear Naked Choke.

3:24 - Defending the secondary hand & why you MUST chase the thumb.

6:24 - "The Foot Clamp": The genius lower-body detail Bernardo Faria had never seen!

8:45 - The Elbow Rule: Clearing the head and getting your inside elbow to the mat.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
