How do you defend the knee cut pass?
Great guard retention isn't about relying on a single technique, it's about building layers of defense.
Your first line of defense is the knee shield, preventing your opponent from driving their knee to the mat.
If they get past that, your second line of defense is framing under the knee to stop the pass before it develops.
And if the pressure continues, your final line of defense is securing the underhook to keep your hips from being flattened and your back exposed.
The best guard players don't panic when one defense fails. They transition seamlessly to the next.
Build your defensive system, and your guard becomes much harder to pass.
Train the concepts. The techniques will follow.
