How to Finish a Butterfly Sweep When Your Opponent Resists #JiuJitsu #ButterflySweep #friscotx

A butterfly sweep is one thing when your training partner cooperates. But what happens when they actually resist?

Professor Matthew Jones demonstrates a basic butterfly sweep using the sleeve and belt for control, the butterfly hook to elevate, and a quick transition to mount without getting caught in half guard. Then he shows the more realistic version: your opponent steps out and uses their leg to stop the sweep. Instead of giving up, Matt adjusts the pull, controls the arm and creates the twisting motion needed to finish the sweep.

Learning how to adjust when someone resists is where technique becomes useful on the mat.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
