What Every Jiu-Jitsu White Belt Should Learn in Their First 6 Months #JiuJitsu #BJJWhiteBelt

Your first six months of Jiu-Jitsu aren’t about learning every technique you see. It’s about building a small set of fundamental skills you can actually build upon.

Professor Matthew Jones explains why new white belts should focus on a couple of dependable guard passes, then develop a sweep and submission from guard. Defense matters just as much. Learning how to defend in these positions and recover guard from bottom side control can help you build a solid foundation as you continue training.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
