Forged in the Cantagalo favela between Ipanema and Copacabana, Jonata Gomes started jiu-jitsu at age six through his father Antonio Carlos, a future black belt in the Rio scene. His early development passed through Rafael Fidelis’s social project Amigos do Morro and later Ricardo “Rico” Vieira’s Cantagalo project and Fightzone gym in Copacabana.
